Sondra Butterworth began her professional career as a general nurse. She studied for a degree in Psychology and gained the Post Graduated Certificate in Education. She began working in the field of Moving and Handling over 10 years ago, where she was able to expand her training and facilitation skills by developing a number of training courses relating to Moving and Handling.

Sondra found herself in the unique position of being able to study for a Masters degree in psychology, while working as a Moving and Handling Co-ordinator in a Mental Health Trust, where she developed a specific interest in Moving and Handling in a variety of challenging situations.

Sondra’s first appointment as a Moving and Handling Co-ordinator was over 10 years ago, where she discovered that she needed to build on traditional methods of handling by introducing psychological approaches.

Sondra moved on to work as an advisor in a variety of settings and organisation, undertaking risk assessments, delivering workshops and speaking at conferences.

More recently Sondra developed an interest in Equality and Diversity and worked as a BME worker for BILD and Mencap. She was involved in national projects with both organisations. Sondra currently works as an Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator; and a Moving and Handing independent Advisor.

Some of the projects Sondra has been involved in are included in the Projects Page.
